Default Installed on HD, I cannot login as root.

    Hello,

I have installed Backtrack 4 Pre final on my HD, but when I try to use "su -" command and I use "toor" password the console says:

    "autentification failed"

    What am I doing wrong?

    thank you.

Try harder. It has been asked at least 3 times this week so I know good and well the answer is there. If you want to learn then start researching.

OK, lets repeat it one more time then. When you install BT 4 Prefinal it does not set root's password. To get root privileges you need to use sudo. Once you have root privileges you can set the root password if you wish using the passwd command.

if you are new to linux then take a training on it.

I am also using back track 4 final. Perhaps it will help you: just open shell console and type sudo passwd root flow below:
    root@net-desktop:~# sudo passwd root
Enter new UNIX password: (enter your new password)
confirm passwd: ( renter your new password)
again type su and enter your password and check your root account.

I hope this is enough to active your root

    Thank you.

Edit your previous post instead of making two posts in a row ripon.

In addition to what lupin said, there is a video that goes through all the initial steps for a new install, including setting the root password. All you have to do is watch the video, and type the same commands.
