Wpa cracking question

I've read about passthrough way of cracking wpa with pyrit and cowpatty

pyrit -e (router essid) -f (path to the dictionary file) passthrough | (path to coWPatty) -d - -s (router essid) -r (name of capture file)

but it requires dictionary file, which may not contain password and the attack won't be successful.

So i'd like to ask if i know ESSID. Can i generate rainbow table for my essid without dictionary? If yes what software can i use?

Hi, your rainbow table wouldn't have any hashes in it if no dictionary is supplied when creating, so you need to supply a comprehensive (or not) wordlist to have a usefull rainbow table. Is this what you meant?

What he means is can it be bruteforced. The answer is yes it can if you have a few years to wait for some results. Even then that may only get you 8 chars, if its more that that it may be another 50 or so years. So really the answer is NO.
