Default Rarcrack, Does it work for anyone else?

Nice to see this one added to BT4 but so far no dice on getting it to run. I select rarcrack, the screen loads then asks for sudo pass. I give the pass and then I'm at /pentest/passwords/rarcrack$ --Help doesn't work, rarcrack test.rar doesn't work, they all give me bash: rarcrack: command not found. On my ubuntu box this loads fine, doesn't ask for sudo and rarcrack and help commands work fine. unrar and unzip have been installed and I assume all the other requirements are met since its been included. If any one knows how to fix this or has free time, try it out on your box. Included in /rarcrack is test.rar and test.zip so you have a file to try. I will keep messing around with it and if I figure it out I will post a answer.

    Try it like this:

    Code:
    chmod a+x /pentest/passwords/rarcrack && sudo /pentest/passwords/rarcrack test.rar
It might look extraneous but I am trying to cover two possibilities in one statement.

Let us know how you go.

Edit: err, it might be /pentest/passwords/rarcrack/rarcrack too. Once i've reinstalled my BT4 pre I'll make a note of which it actually is.
    Still not underestimating the power...

    chmod a+x /pentest.....
Did not work, could not change permissions. Adding sudo chmod a+x /pentest.. && sudo
did work but I am still not getting anything.

Instead of the /rarcrack$ its now /rarcrack#

It is not asking for the root pass and loaded up correctly but once I enter
rarcrack test.rar or rarcrack test.rar --type rar I am getting
    bash: rarcrack: command not found

That generally means its not in your PATH.
Try going to the directory and then running the command and see what happens.

I went back and tried everything again today and made sure that I was in fact in the correct path. Starting rarcrack from k menu/bt/privilege/pass/offline/rarcrack , rarcrack loads. Rarcrack! 0.2 by David.... yada yada. Usage rarcrack test.rar --type rar
    bash rarcrack command not found

close the shell, open a shell and go cd.. cd.. ls, cd pentest, cd passwords, cd rarcrack
rarcrack = bash rarcrack command not found
then I try rarcrack test.rar and rarcrack test.rar -- type rar from the same shell
bash rarcrack command not found for both entries

I am pulling the rarcrack.tar from the web now and I'm going to recompile and make sure I have all the lib files installed. Will post a update soon.

    Try
    #./rcrack
Bash command not found is generally just that.
The command was not a recognized as a command.
Might want to read up on that a bit before you go re-compiling anything.

The problem is most likely that you are not root. Backtrack is designed to be run as root. We do not worry about making our programs work for normal users.

Thank you both for the replies. I was unaware that you had to run commands with ./ in this version of BT. Sorry you had to spoon feed me.

    Not all commands require it.
One might want to look into why it would be needed.

I have been toying around with rarcrack, and for some reason can't get it to give results..

I have tried making various password protected zip / rar files, with easy passes like "abc" "123" etc etc, to no avail.

It seems to be starting up and running just fine, but wont give results..

Anyone else running into similar situations ?

    edit
    ----
I made the password protected files with IZArc, with 128bit AES encryption.
Might just try a different proggie / encryption and see what happens then.. reverting..

    Running just fine;
