Default Sound and Wireless Remain disabled after start on HP dv4 Laptop

Whenever backtrack is started and after the login root and password toor and startx and all that jazz, my computer fails to enable the wireless and sound cards, yet everything else works perfectly.

In windows and ubuntu 9.04 and 8.10, once the OS has loaded, the cards become visibly enabled because their corresponding touch buttons turn from orange to blue. but when backtrack 4 is loaded, (which is debian based now like ubuntu right?), it remains orange indicating it is off. Can anyone help me with this or has a similar problem? This has occured in both backtrack 3 and 4.

Even when using ifconfig, it recognizes that there is a card, but it is not being enabled at start up for some reason

which dv4 laptop do you have, mine is a dv4-1125nr and there wasn't much information regarding it on the backtrack wiki site either. I've had this problem with both BT3 and BT4.
