ifconfig eth0 up
hello everyone, i am having a problem. i have a live Backtrack3 cd. when i run that and try to connect to net it doesnt get connected.
when i gave this on the terminal :
ifconfig eth0
the reply was device couldnt be found.But when i use ubuntu on the same desktop it connects to net and shows status of eth0 too.I am using live cd of backtrack3.I m also not even able to connect to my modem interface.
My modem is siemens sl2_141 (ADSL)

First thing to do is run "ifconfig -a"; this will give you a list of all the network interfaces in your computer regardless of whether they're currently up or down.
That list will hopefully give you the name of your network card, which might be eth0, eth1, whatever.

well i have an intel 915 GeV motherboard.. but the problem is when on the same comuter i use UBUNTU it shows me eth0 and the results but when i run backtrack 3 on same pc (live cd) it shows eth0 : NO SUCH DEVICE.
why such a problem???
