Any chance of a John The Ripper tut please?

Hey all,

I have been searching for a step by step (as I am new to this) guide for a john the ripper tut which exaplains the process of using the "known force" attack. Is there any chance someone could drop kick or preferably point me in the right direction (other than google as I have tried this) and it would be greatfuly appreciated - thanks!!

john -w: WORDLIST.txt Passfile.txt

and google.com

usually i do

john -wordlist=[path to wordlist] -rules [path to password.txt]

that password.txt is whatever you name the file. from what I understand it has to be in some sort of txt file.
