how to hack a administrator password on vista with backtrack on virtual m.

yes its possible. Your going to need a hack tool like this:


Once you have that just open up the PC and saw straight in to the mother board being careful to split the cpu directly in half other wise you wont get a proper 7 digit ntlm split on both sides. Once you get done hacking it should come right out of there. Ok you should be all set.

Not quite sure what you mean by hack a password but it is possible to guess a password or to crack a password, and its also possible to gain access to an Administrator account on Vista by passing a password hash or by other means, such as exploiting applications or services. If you don't know what Im talking about then you're not ready for what you're trying to do.

Id suggest you start with a less lofty goal first, otherwise its like trying to do Olympic pole vaulting before you can walk.

Start by reading through this forum, trying some of the tutorials, reading some basic guides on the 'Net and then maybe having a go at Damn Vulnerable Linux, de-ice pen test CDs once you get a bit more sure of what you're doing.

In order to get the administrator password of a windows box, you must first gain access to that box. So, your first question should be:

"How do I gain remote access on a Windows Box?"

Since you are using BackTrack (i.e. Linux), I suggest you use google and search for terms such as "smbmount" or "brute force network share from linux".

You have a lot of learning to do...this is not generally the place to answer the question "how do I hack". For that, you need to begin the learning the hard way...by searching and reading for yourself.

Why is no command line support for Ophcrack a problem? You provide Ophcrack a password hash you have already captured from a Windows box and it can crack it for you... you dont need to run it on the box that you want to get the password for (in most cases you wouldn't want to either).

You may luck into getting admin rights when you exploit the box, but generally speaking, the only way to get admin on ANY Windows box is to either guess, brute force, or dump the hash. Keep in mind that getting the admin account is not necessarily the ultimate goal. In Windows, there are 2 accounts that provide similar but different privileges, Administrator and System. If you want to do things to a individual box, System will let you do just about anything. If the box is part of a domain, then the account you REALLY want is the domain admin, which is found on the DC.

At any rate, to get the administrator (and other user accounts) on a box, you will need remote access, and then you will need privileges that allow you to dump the hashes of the user accounts, generally these privileges will be SYSTEM level.

To get this level, you may need to escalate using some kind of local exploit, and then use a tool such as pwdump (or similar tool) to get the hashes, and then, use something like ophcrack to break the hashes out.
