is the ec_uid and ec_gid line in etter.conf = 0 for root? Maybe that will help.
Make sure the iptables section in /etc/etter.conf is uncommented.

Did you use aireplay-ng at all in your procedure? Also, did you test the adapter to see if it can inject? aireplay-ng -9 wlan0. The fast that the power does not show may be a good indicator of...

What brand of USB stick are you using...I have had issues with some brands. The just are slow for whatever reason. Can you try another USB stick to remove the stick as an issue?
Your interface in your run commands is wlan0, but the above error is for eth0. Can you provide a ifconfig and a iwconfig output?
How are you installing? To hard drive? To a virtual hard drive? How big is the hard drive? Is this a dual boot system?
