The disk would called hda if you boot bt from usb or an external hard disk.
Check whether you hda3 is active or not, you should mark it active if you want to boot into this partition. Maybe hda3...
have u chrooted into the root folder of HDD? since there is no "sda" in your lilo, I believe that the lilo.conf file used is not the one you wanted to use.

uhm, I think you should use lilo since it's simpler than grub. JUst change a litle bit in the default lilo.conf, you'll get the things done :D

Yes, 8G is probably not enough for BT plus 1.9G, if u are still in doubt, run "df -h"! You should try for slax instead of BT to get more space.

I think there is no problem with both to run backtrack.
in bt3final or some version :D, I think they do that for you since root user does not usually works with graphic interface. Let add a new user and use it.
