I had this problem, these two lines fixed it all:
cp /usr/local/lib/libwsutil.so.1 /usr/lib/libwsutil.so.0
cp /usr/local/lib/libwiretap.so.1 /usr/lib/libwiretap.so.0

I'm having the same problem. Driver is installed, it's showing it's on using dmesg |tail -20, but ifconfig doesn't see it.
I think it was the usb drive. A brand new 16G kingston. I got it to work with another stick. Why would one stick not work? That's weird.

I'll sift through that forum, and I'll post my hardware here tomorrow. It can boot from a cd fine. I have tried it on two usb sticks.
