alright, intel drivers are installed but they are very old.

follow these steps:

1) apt-get install python-software-properties
2) add-apt-repository ppa:glasen/intel-driver
3) apt-get update...

what does your /etc/default/grub look like? any kernel options for startup (i915.modeset=1 nomodeset i915.i915_enable_rc6=1...
