I had the same error using bt5 on vmware with a usb dongle. I simply killed the specified processes and was able to proceed.

I was getting this error as well.
To connect to wireless using WPA/WPA2 in Backtrack 4:
1. Create a file /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf, copy and paste in the following
network={...
/pentest/passwords/wordlists
Instead of dhcpcd <interface>, try dhclient <interface>.
I had that error with my wusb54gc dongle -I pulled it out and plugged it back in and it worked. Seems to work better if you plug it in after bt3 has loaded.
I got the "Radio of your wireless card seems to be turned off" error message using my wusb54gc dongle. I removed and reinserted the nic and it worked. Hope this helps.
