I had some problems using the mounted iso so I downloaded it again and burned it to a disk and installed it from the CD/DVD rom and it worked. I think in my case it was a bad download.

It seems that apt-get update is not receiving the list with the location of the newer kernel, and therefore not downloading it into /var/cache/apt/archives/
