first thing to do, yes type in /etc/init.d/wicd start at the terminal either before u type startx or when u had log in as root..

after that just iwconfig to see ur intrface..

see to the ESSID:...

did u type "airmon-ng" first to see what intrface currently running?

if its show mon1, mon2 just stop it and put wlan0 to mode disabled first...

then just type "airmon-ng start wlan0" and...
