I've been unable to run testdisk for quite some time.

Running testdisk gives me:

Well, you do this:

grub rescue>
set prefix=(hd0,5)/boot/grub
set root=(hd0,5)
insmod normal
normal

now Grub menu might show up

I gave up on that idea myself. It's easier to just create separate partition to store files on, and encrypt that.
