Nice to see Linux being shipped pre-installed by OEM laptop mfgrs. Interesting why did Toshiba choose OpenSolaris tho? I thought Ubuntu would be the logical first choice...?
Toshiba...
For the mobile-broadband part, the 2 largest nation-wide carriers are AT&T (GSM/UMTS) and Verizon (CDMA). Their coverage should be more-or-less equal. If you are coming from Norway, then you should...
When I was in the military all our equipment was in mobile vans. If it started buring, just jump out, 31 seconds, 32 seconds, didn't matter, whatever you felt like :p
I heard David Carradine...
So water sprinklers in server rooms are the norm?
I was thinkng of the equipment, it didn't cross my mind that I could be in danger....shows my dedication I guess :p:D...gotta ask for a...
I was in a police station last week (invited on buisness, not in dragged in bracelets :D), and noticed fire sprinklers above their server/communication racks. I really, really hope the sprinklers...
Oh. I don't know the specs of the router, just saw it had 2 antennas. If only one is transmitting, then scratch what I said. Anyway, think along the lines of a fixed directional antenna on each end....
I would put a directional antenna on each end, since you want to only transmit/receive siganls in only one direction (omni-antennas would be a waste in your case).
Your router has 2 antennas, so...
For sure PTP links can replace leased lines, no question (assuming you have LOS). Cellular operators worldwide use microwave links as trasnport from base stations to the core network. The up-front...
Whaa?
Ha-ha, this post had me rolling :D
As far as the NAT question: I tried a few STUN servers and all said I'm behind a symmetric NAT, so "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck..."....
What advantage does logmein have over any of the free VNC programs, like UltraVNC?
I have a stand-alone SIP phone (plugs direct to the router, has it's own local IP address). The STUN server I connect to says I am behind a Symmetric NAT, and Symmetric NAT's cause problems with SIP...
If it doesn't work as an antenna, you can always use it to smoke hash :p

GSM/UMTS radio network engineer ... before that SATCOM ...
I'm hoping that was for the USAF and not Al Queda :p
Ok, good, thanks for the feedback.
Yea, most websites (including that "systemm check" I made) use the HTTP_USER_AGENT to get info about your browser. I'm not sure if theres another way to go about...
I'm not an expert on ports, but I did write/modify a PHP script that checks for open portson all 65,000 ports of anyone who goes to my "System Check" link:

A good cable-jiggle usually solves all my problems, but unfortunately not in this case...
...and back to the CAT6 cable: putting my experience aside, has anyone upgraded their CAT5 to CAT6...
I don't remember the cables coming with any instructions, I assumed ethernet cables were "plug-and-play"...but maybe not so simple afterall? ;)
I didn't dig into it. It was 2 WinXP machines...
I'm an engineer, I know about variables ;) That's why I tested the cables (right out of the box) sitting at my desk with the switch and 2 computers (all 1000Base-T). I simply swapped the CAT5e cables...
On my home network I have all 1000Base-T equipment (cards + switches), but using CAT5e cables and getting thruput about 400Mbps. A while back I bought some Belkin CAT6 cables assuming the perfomance...
This was an interesting project about wifi triangulation:

Thanks! I was looking at http://www.sipfoundry.org/ but somehow missed trixbox...
No, never saw that, thanks. Interesting, but generally not much new (Skype is a proprietary blackbox, blah-blah). What was more interesting was to see EADS giving a presentation at a BlackHat...
Shirt's on ;)
I've found this forum (Remote-Exploit) usually has people with good, unbiased IT info, so figured this is a good place to ask. The Skype forum may be biased.
Yea, mine does, and...
