    Well ATI also recommend 650w+ for crossfire on these cards so your still within the recommendations. On that second link you posted they recommend 600w+ so i suppose that's just a matter of opinion....

    I would say it was on purpose as most cpu's support sse2 now. That's a old processor you've got there :D !! Just recompile with the right optimization flags set and you will be good to go.
