It might be the USB stick or your USB port, certain ports don't allow booting. Also, does your USB stick have a lock? If it does, switch it off.

If you are booting in VMWare, change the way it connects to the internet to NAT.

I followed s1lents tutorial, i was reading around and saw that when i entered the command:
mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda1
I wasn't supposed to?
