I believe he means change this:

to this:
text splash nouveau.modeset=0 vga=791

startx

what are you using for a graphics card? Are you using the new Sandy Bridge, not sure on if the GT 240M is an optimus card so i was curious. I have been having issues with my GT555M using Intel HD...
Do you get a blank screen or does it just hang with the boot text?

Well, for those of you guys that are interested I finally got this issue fixed and I was able to capture the handshake in airodump-ng on the monitoring interface.
The solution was just dumb luck...
