Not necessarily. There are issues with the mac drivers.
Glad to see you have joined this little group hebeda. I hope you can push linux from your end. Cheers.
I cant help you with your problems as such as I have gone back to the old drivers. But, with regard to the overheating, check what power your 8187 is set to (with iwconfig). With a bog standard...
I don't use newtork manager with bt3 (or bt4). I prefer to use the command line.
In BT3, after you have cracked your network make sure your Alfa is back to managed mode. Then set the essid and...
You will have more luck searching in the BT3 sections for WPA and rtl8187. I would think you will need to use wpasupplicant with the old drivers. To be honest, anyone starting with BT would be better...
DeltaEskimo:
Forget ./wlan0up ;)
The mac80211 drivers produce mon0. The ieee80211 drivers dont. You just use wlan0.
Is it the bssid or essid you are trying to set? To set essid and wep key use:...

Your problem is exactly what I had using the stock Ubuntu 8.10 drivers. This is what set me on the course of changing back to the old ones.
I can't explain the installation any...
There's a driver for the 8187b on the aircrack-ng website. Just get that (and the appropriate patch?) from there. Is the 8187b as bad as the 8187 with the mac80211 driver under 2.6.27(+)?
Here's what I did to change to the old drivers:
blacklist the rtl8187 driver:
# nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
add 'blacklist rtl8187' at the bottom and save (without the quotes)
then...
I'd stick with 3 for now. Almost all issues are well documented. Better rtl8187 driver as well. BT4 is also a distro shift and is beta so it will be quite a while before the wrinkles are ironed out.
Under standard Ubuntu 8.10 and BT4b I have had trouble with the mac80211 drivers for the rtl8187. The signal strength and quality are crap compared to the old ieee80211 drivers. See the pics here for...
Just a note on the ALFA. Ok, its now using the mac drivers and its more convenient but it does not operate as good as it did with the old drivers. I originally noticed the difference when I installed...
"cannot lock media/.hal-mtab"
# mkdir /media
# touch /media/.hal-mtab
Just a couple of things (I'm on BT3 Final HD install with Nessus v3.2.1 - FC9 RPMs).
I stress these small issues were for me, but:
nessus-mkcert threw an error because I used the lib~.so.6...
I totally agree ReckaH although the post you quoted isn't the only one. Time and time again this type of response is seen on these forums by big mouths but also by people who should know better. I...
The "popup" is knemo. Enable it in System>Settings>Internet and Network>Network Monitor.
If you're having trouble starting kismet from the menu try editing
/usr/local/etc/kismet.conf.backtrack
it starts up as I would expect now on my BT3b HD install.
Originally I put my source...
As far as I can see so far the T42 works with BT3 beta (as did BT2)
This time though my Alpha Networks AWUS036H works out of the box. No more over writing the ieeee80211 ko files. Also there is no...
How do you know your cards drivers are reporting the correct values in the first place ;)
I'm just wondering who here would be dossed with this vulnerablilty. More to the point, who would know it was this that dossed them. And even, who exactly would know how to dos somebody with it...
Just go back to the original BT2 disk and install that to HD without any patches and copy the proper drivers for the alpha to where they need to be. The only bug is that last char thing and that...
Seek and ye shall find:
"Alpha Network AWUS036H rtl8187 chipset in managed mode"
Don't forget though, just because the Alpha can associate with a wep encrypted access point it doesn't mean...
I can highly recommend Hebeda. I have had a few items from them.
Thats about all you need to do, just make sure its in your current directory or its location is in your $path. You don't even need to stop airodump-ng or whatever you use from running either, just...
pilotsnipes, if I were you I would try a hd install or at least without vmware as airmon-ng works exactly as I would expect with my Alpha, as indeed does airodump-ng and airecrack-ng etc. vmware can...
