Agree, the last one from first post (slate look) is a keeper. It reminds me of one of the Quake logos. Can you recreate it in different shades: gray, blue and greenish tints would all be neat.

It's probably easier to use the Ubuntu grub only, as it's the one that will change more often with kernel updates (I expect BT4 to remain more 'frozen' to its release version, as in the past). 9.10...
It may be an issue with syslinux; I believe I've seen it mentioned on pendrivelinux.com that older version of syslinux need FAT(16) rather than FAT32.
