    Re: BT5-RC2 issues!

Thanks a lot. I already knew about installing linux-headers and linux-source and did that.
But I didn't know about prepare-kernel-sources. That did the trick for me, works fine now:
    ...
  2. Re: nvidia driver installation impossible after upgrading to kernel 3.2.6

    Problem solved.
As I learned, I had to to this to prepare the kernel sources:
    prepare-kernel-sources
    cd /usr/srv/linux
    cp -rf include/generated/* include/linux/
    After that, installing the...

    Re: BT5 R2 dist-upgrade failed

@Innerfire: I have a similar issue. (Just instead of "nvidia-current" I used to use the NVIDIA.. .bin driver file from the Nvidia website).
    I suspect the (probably modified/customized 3.2.6 kernel...

    Re: BT5-RC2 issues!

Thanks for the tip. But tbh, I am very much scared of the nouveau driver. With the first kernel (BT5) it was a pain to
finally get rid of the nouveau driver and being able to install the newest one...

    Re: BT5-RC2 issues!

That 3.2.6 kernel update is not compatible with nvidia driver (the .bin file downloaded from nvidia website).
It worked in BT5 and BT5R1 (executing that .bin file with the --kernel-source-path...
  6. nvidia driver installation impossible after upgrading to kernel 3.2.6

After the last 2 kernel updates it was easy to install the nvidia driver from the nvidia homepage.
    I did:
    apt-get install linux-headers-<version>
    and then
    sh ./NVIDIA.... --kernel-source-path...
  7. Re: Bug in new kernel: Write-access to a NTFS-partition only PRETENDS writing there:(

    That problem really suxx.
Since there's no anwer, here some additional info:
The backtrack partition is ext4, no swap-partition.
Both harddisks are SATA2 in a notebook and they contain an SSD...
  8. Re: Booting Error -USB Drive Install -Looping Error After First Boot

This errormessage basically says that the "ext2" filesystem is broken.
Sounds to me like you'll have to reformat (or exchange) the USB-stick and reinstall BT5R1.
Maybe you'll want to choose ext4...

    Re: Adding numbers to wordlist

When using oclHashcat-plus, then you can define rules to also probe the addition of 2 digits to each word of your wordlist.
That way it's not necessary to "blow up" your wordlistfile....
  10. Bug in new kernel: Write-access to a NTFS-partition only PRETENDS writing there:(

Since the upgrade to the new kernel, I have this issue on my dualboot box (Win7 64-bit and BT5 32-bit KDE):
If I save (or copy) a new file to one of the NTFS-partitions (using the "Dolphin"...

    Re: Oclhashcat+

Same effect (as the OP had) here too. Mine is a nvidia card, though.
Graphics drivers is the latest one, cuda should be okay.

Alternative is cudaHashcat32.bin but there is no clear documentation...
  12. How to update/upgrade the tools+distro, how to solve problems afterwards?

I am using BT5 KDE 32-bit, installed on harddisk, working as "root".

I regularly do 3 things to stay up to date:
    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade
    "Start" / "System" / "KPackageKit" /...

Re: audio, Ensonic AudioPCI ENS1371 (not important)

    Me too.
LOL, only people here having a problem, or also people having a solution?
Let me guess the answer: "This is not a BT-, but a general Linux/Ubuntu-problem." Right?

    Re: [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID:

After ages, the moderators finally approved my thread. In the meantime i found out at least something about this issue:

  15. Re: Howto use only LiveCD without screwing the productive OS?

Thanks to both of you. This answered my original post, so far.
However it brought up directly the 5 mentioned problems/questions as follow-up-issues.
It would be helpful if somebody could take a...

Re: Wicd Connection Failed: Bad password

The WPA2-PSK key must be entered as a hex-value (not as the cleartext-passphrase). Hower, I have the same problem because I didn't figure out yet,
how to calculate the hex-value of my WPA2 key. (My...

    [drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* Raw EDID:

On my notebook ("Asus G73S" which is extremely new and has a built-in Nvidia GTX460M) the console is spamming 1-2x per second errormessages like this one:
    [xx.xxxxx] [drm:drm_edid_block_valid]...
  18. Re: Howto use only LiveCD without screwing the productive OS?

Thanks a lot. So I had the courage to give it a try.
Good news is, it really didn't touch my harddrive.
Bad news is, I ran into follow-up problems which really are confusing for a BT-noob:

    1....
  19. Howto use only LiveCD without screwing the productive OS?

Hi all. I prefer asking BEFORE I screw my system;) :

After downloading and burning the BT5 ISO-file (64bit with KDE), is it safe to boot from this DVD?
I mean: Does it automatically boot as only...
