Try starting wifite with the wps no-time option.
./wifite.py -wpst 0

OP stated he's using a USB Alfa in VMware, I don't think that's the problem conistantine.
If ifconfig doesn't show your Alfa try ...
ifconfig -a
If your Alfa card shows up as wlan0 you need to...
