i had this problem BUT i figured a small work around...kinda...basically DONT keep the wireless assitant window open as soon as your connected then close it.....also usually takes me 2goes to connect...

basically when following xploitz tutorial on cracking WEP key with no clients.... i get stuck after i do this command airodump-ng -c 6 -w filename --bssid mac ath0 yesterday it worked brillianty...
