It didn't for the 64 bit but after trying the 32 bit gnome it did, and then the installation failed much earlier than 99%, while copying files.

I've downloaded Backtrack 5 GNOME 64-bit on a dvd, started up the computer running everything fine.
But when I try to install backtrack, using the desktop icon, the installation goes smoothly up...
