    if your laptop has a switch for the wireless card, make sure it is switch to the "on" position. OR Some laptops (like mine) have a button instead of a switch. then run:

    make sure you uninstalled compat-wireless.
    run:
    airmon-ng
    lsusb
    lsmod

    and see if it shows up. If it doesn't try modprobe ar9170usb and/or unplugging your adapter and plugging it back in.

    Make sure your using BackTrack4 R2. You shouldn't need to load any module it will do it automatically. try unplugging it and plugging it back in.
