  1. Re: What Direction (In Learning) Should an Amateur Pentester Take?

Contrary to PH post, I'd call it BS. The idea every hacker is just some kid sitting in their PJs all day and working at "safeway", then dreaming of a becoming a pentester is laughable at best....
  2. Re: What Direction (In Learning) Should an Amateur Pentester Take?

Praise indeed and an excellent synopsis! IMO I believe it's also important for the creation of attack vectors. I suppose it's the question "why" as much as "how".
  3. Re: What Direction (In Learning) Should an Amateur Pentester Take?

For method I'd use a simple equation. Learn to defend as formidably as you attack. Both are entwined like a never ending dance, the more you understand one the more you are capable of another.
  4. Re: What Direction (In Learning) Should an Amateur Pentester Take?

As well as the very cool linking going on, OP also mentioned books so one of them I'd recommend is Google Hacking for Penetration Testers

    Re: forum culture debate :/

Firstly you have to give credit to the quality of the forum for discussing the issues. IMO the mods do a superb job of seperating lazy posts from those where people have clearly done some research....

  18. Re: What is the difference between a hacker and a script kiddy.

I could only repeat the above definitions of skiddies. IMO the book "Stealing the Network: How to Own a Continent" provides some good examples of the contrasting mentality and ability of hackers.
