I finally got my Postgresql to work in Metsploit, what I did in the end was to fire up synaptic and remove 'framework 3' and then I downloaded the installer from the metasploit website, installed...
I just did apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade which pulled in the latest bunch of updates, which included a newer version of the kernel open Vas stuff etc etc.
