Try the following:
Unplug the dongle and reboot Backtrack.
After Backtrack is up plug in the dongle and type:
ifconfig wlan0 up
airmon-ng start wlan0
airodump-ng mon0
Type: Posts; User: ph3ane5phr3ak; Keyword(s):

I am using the same adapter and haven't experienced any problems running it on BT5 32Bit.Works perfectly out of the box.
However I couldn't get it running neither on BT5 64Bit installed on disk...
