    It just doesn't show what you are typing for obvious security reasons but it works. Just type your password and press enter and let us know if it works for you.

    Hi balding_parrot, I would just add that md5sum also work on OS X, just open Terminal, type md5sum and drag & drop the file to the terminal windows.

    Not sure what you are doing wrong, I would guess downloading the wrong file :) The VM of the final version actually comes as a Zip. If you want the ISO, just download the first image on this page:

    More information will be useful for sure but my first guess would be that you didn't edit your BIOS to make sure that the computer boot from the USB instead of your internal hard drive.

    Persistent just means that if you make any change, they will be saved for when you next boot up. It generally apply for when you run it from a USB stick.
