Weird Behavior from BT3 on thinkpad t20.

I've got BT3 beta running on my think pad here and have been dinking with the xconfs trying to get the OS to work with my savage card. Any way I xconf for the autoconfig and it just scrubs my xwindows boots and makes my system hang. So I replace the new /etc/xorg.conf with my backed up one that uses vesa and now startx loads xwindows into fluxbox instead of kde.
Any one got any idea what would make this happen? I used cp /mnt/sda1/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
