Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X31000 and Xorg.conf
I have a Sony VGN-NR160E with a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X31000, it should have a
resolution of 1280x800 which I did get from the live CD after running xconf. Now after the install I am unable to get this.
I have looked at /etc/X11/Xorg.conf but I don't see anything that looks like a resolution setting. I have searched in google and here but haven't found anyhting yet. I have a dual boot with BT3 and Ubuntu, would I be able to copy from the Ubuntu Xorg.conf?
Actually the only thing I saw from my search was from ubuntuforums.org but they have lines in there that are not in the backtrack file so I'm not sure if its safe to add them.
here is my Xorg.conf output:

I know that this lists an NVIDIA on Ubuntu, but would adding just the lines with the resolutions settings solve my problem??
Thanks for any help.
this is my xorg.conf from my ubuntu install in case I would be able to use it:
# xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

On a side note, is anyone here running Gnome???
solved by editing the grub menu.lst
Ok this problem had nothing to do with the xorg.conf configuration, I messed with that for a while and even got it so at least the screen was centered( eventually all i could get was a black screen though) I was reading through the xorg.conf-vesa and xorg.conf-fbdev files and noticed the vga chart which I remembered seeing in the grub file when I was trying to edit that to make it boot. So I booted back into ubuntu and read over the first entries for ubuntu and noticed that it had no 'vga=795' or whatever number it would be, it just ended with 'ro'. So I removed the vga entry for bt3 and let it end with 'ro' rebooted to bt3 and startx without running xconf. I have full screen with the normal 1280x800 resolution.
Anyone getting a black screen might want to look at their boot menu as it might not have anything to do with xorg. Not sure if it would be the same with lilo but I think it's worth trying.
