Alfa awus036h not seen in backtrack 5 R3

Hey,

I am new here and hoepfully will learn a lot from these forums, Just joined a massively discounted networking course through www.1weeksale.com but want to look mre into the hacking side to so trying to start off here. I am using backtrack 5 R3 in Vmware but my alfa wireless card in not dectected anywhere. I have tried all other threads but none resolve my issue. If some one can run me through a solution that would be great. The device works fine in windows but in the konsole i cannot get it to show up in different commands.

usually non usb wireless cards doesn't show in vmware u need to boot the live CD in order to manage your wireless card try that and see if there is any thing else let me know :)

OP stated he's using a USB Alfa in VMware, I don't think that's the problem conistantine.
If ifconfig doesn't show your Alfa try ...

If your Alfa card shows up as wlan0 you need to activate it. A quick ...

ifconfig wlan0 up

should do the trick.

Thanks for the replies guys. I believe it was a vmware problem. I re-installed everything and was able to see the option to disconnect alfa from host to let me use it in virtual machine.
