Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter Problems Using Backtrack 5 R2
Hello guys,
I'm kind of new to Backtrack but I have some good understanding of how things work, I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y560 with an built in Atheros AR9285, I have read lots and lots of tutorials and guides to see how to fix the following problem:
I don't get any results when I type Airmon-ng, I have installed Compat wireless 2.6.38-rc4-1.tar.bz2 and WICD
I have also made sure that in WICD>Preferences>Wireless Adapter it has WLAN0 in it...
Furthermore, I have installed the Aircrack installation...
What should I do?
Thanks in Advance!

Wep? wpa-wpa2? Have you tried WPA-WPA2? Only WEP doesn't work? Both encryption don't work?
Need more info..Certainly WEp has issues on ath9k module sometimes even upgrading compat-wireless.
You might want to upgrade to BT5r3 : ----> http://www.backtrack-linux.org/backt...acktrack-5-r3/
Also try this:
rmmod ath9k
modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1
Try to connect...
Luck

Hey Maverik, Thanks for your help! This worked out just great, turns out It was the virtual machine, anyway I now have Backtrack 5 R2 (Gnome) installed on a live USB and everything works just fine, except that when I boot it and type in Startx, a black screen appears, I have read lots and lots of guides and tutorials on this and they have said that I should type i915.modeset=1 in the GRUB, I do, however the blackscreen still appears. Any suggestions?
Btw, I installed Ubuntu 12.10 but I feel that backtrack boots on it's own, does Ubuntu have anything to do with it? Cause I'm dual booting win7 and Ubuntu. With backtrack live USB when I need it..
Thanks a lot !
Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter Problems Using Backtrack 5 R2
Try these commands.
This command will tell you the interface.
iwconfig
This command will tell you if your wireless is turned off.
dmesg|tail -20
This command will tell you if the wireless is being blocked.
rfkill -list
Once you let me know the error, I can help you out from there. Also you can search for me on YouTube, I am curemymind.
Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter Problems Using Backtrack 5 R2

Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter Problems Using Backtrack 5 R2
It is a video issue..But why using intel kms driver (i915)..Do you have an intel graphics card?
Post output of:
lspci | grep -i vga (at the beggining of output there is this PCI ID : xx:xx.x)
lspci -vvs xx:xx.x
Let's see what type of card you have and the driver used...

Re: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Adapter Problems Using Backtrack 5 R2
post output of : lspci -v
Look for the wifi device and see what module was loaded by kernel.
Also check the module: lsmod | grep -i ath --------> and see if it was loaded. It should show the ath9k.
Luck.
