Hello helsil
This Is my First Post Here in BackTrack Forums
I have also Just got AWUS036NHR
Man i think The drivers for it is Beta'tastic on Linux
I think You (and I) May need new Drivers
I will test My Card And See Wat It is up in my lab
Becuse I have Noticed That it dose Show a Lot of (no assocciated) stations when you use airodump-ng
Since I dont intend to use the AWUS036NHR for pentest i have not run aircrack-ng on it.
Hello maverik35
You wanted to know about the driver
Its a RTL8188RU chipset driver version unknown
but im using Backtrack5 R3 KDE x64 (i have no idea what helsil is using)
Re: i got a problem in my ALFA AWUS036NHR on airodump-ng (no assocciated)
Ok i hope The moderator remembered to post my first post or this will make no Sense
I have tested and This is what i get :
airodump-ng mon0 command:
Code:
CH 9 ][ Elapsed: 5 mins ][ 2012-12-01 17:45
BSSID PWR Beacons #Data, #/s CH MB ENC CIPHER AUTH ESSID
F4:EC:38:xx:xx:xx -91 1054 464 0 9 54e WPA2 CCMP PSK DarkPhoenix.Net
BSSID STATION PWR Rate Lost Frames Probe
(not associated) 00:26:66:xx:xx:xx -35 0 - 2 0 23
airmon-ng wlan1 command:
Code:
Interface Chipset Driver
wlan1 Unknown rtl8192cu - [phy1]
(monitor mode enabled on mon0)
wlan0 Intel 4965AGN iwl4965 - [phy0]
So i think its a driver issue...
The below station is suppose to be connected to the AP on the top
but its clearly NOT
Here is something kinda related
airmon-ng wlan0 command:
Code:
wlan0 Intel 4965AGN iwl4965 - [phy0]SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132
So Maby the backtrack r3 x64 KDE drivers are all broken or something
I know for a fact that my 4965AGN worked on BT5r0 KDE 32bit
Now How to fix..pls

Hello helsil
You wanted to know about the driver
Its a RTL8188RU chipset driver version unknown
but im using Backtrack5 R3 KDE x64 (i have no idea what maverik35 is using)
I use alfa 500 and alfa 1 chipset rtl8187L "always working out of the box, no hassels at all"
Now, one more time, here we go again and again: CHIPSET is the trick..Chipset, no the brand...Once you have the chipset info, then you start to realize what you can and cannot do...
refer here: http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?...st_card_to_buy
and read it all...
refer also here: http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers
Now if you want to use aircrack-ng you need 2 and only 2 things that driver must be capable of: "MONITOR MODE" and "INJECTION in MONITOR MODE"..No monitor mode, no injection, as easy as 123.
You want to use the rest of BT5 (excluding all app that uses monitor mode or aircrack-ng as support), refer to the second link I posted or the vendor site for driver.
The verdor's or linux driver, do not assure you that supports monitor mode and injection natively, in such case, you need to patch the driver, look for the patch in the aircrack-ng site, depending on your chipset and kernel version.
The BT5 job is to provide all possible "patched" drivers and "natively" drivers to many wifi cards..If your card is not supported, you have to work it out.
Buy a supported device or use beini (RTL 8xxxx version) for the chipset and it is a aircrack-ng GUI fork. It works for all rtl 8xxx series. But just to audit wifi AP's.
Luck.

I found this too:
http://hezik.nl/alfa-awus036nhr-chip...iver-install/#
If you read the comments they have the same problems as im having
Not connecting to AP
Not Showing Connected stations
Not able to change TX power
so i think updating to compat-wireless-2011-10-06.tar.bz2 drivers are pointless
maby try compat-wireless-2012-12-02.tar.bz2
im having CPU compatible issues with my Linux box so till i have the bios updated i cannot test
(im using 3g and plan to go online With BT thru a Windows ICS im using my laptop to connect to internet in windows bt i running BT on it now)

Re: i got a problem in my ALFA AWUS036NHR on airodump-ng (no assocciated)
I just got My new AWUS036NH...
In Windows i get more AP's with my AWUS036NHR (With inSSIDer) than the AWUS036NH
But at least i can capture and inject with the AWUS036NH (dose not work on VMware) and i have to reboot ever so often
I only hope the next version of Backtrack Supports the AWUS036NHR fully....
