It should work mate.
I had it working the other day.
I used the new Beta though on their site

If anyone has got nessus beta on bt3 will they please post which one they used. The fc5 is no longer offered only 6 and 7. I installed 6 with no problems however it does not scan properly. i would just like to know if I messed something up or I got the wrong one.:D
Edit: nevermind. I managed to trick the nessus server into sending me fc5 3.1.9 beta even though its not listed on their site. Thanks PF for the idea.
So is FC5 3.1.9 the only version that anyone has working?
Hi, i wanted to install nessus in backtrack....I saw that there was a guide, so i thought "why not"? Unfortunately, it seems that the two files you mentioned
Nessus-3.0.6-fc5.i386.rpm
NessusClient-3.0.0-es4.i386.rpm
Are not still available, i tried with the other packages, and it does not run...
The question, have someone, somewhere the two packages to download? it will be really nice...
BTW, tenable says about Slackware product :
We'll consider supporting additional platforms if there's sufficient demand from our customers. So far, though, there hasn't been much interest in Slackware.
So, if someone have the two packages it would be great!
Thanks
Cris
Heres what I did. The Client GUI is still available so that was fine. What i did for the fc5 version of nessus was a trick (Thanks Prairie Fire). This only works with the live download link they send you in your email. Register and when the email comes click on down load the fc6 version. Cancel that and change it to fc5 and it will work. The file is still on the server. If this was wrong to do somehow some one let me know and I will delete my post.
i have the fc6...
ifollowed step by step the tutorial
but i have not changed the name to fc5

I don't think you understand. You don't download fc6 and change the name you down load fc5 by changing the name in the direct link. This is for the new 3.1.9 beta version. The gui client I used was 3.0.1
;) thank you very much for this tutorial, it's very informative indeed..
i was able to run nessus on VMWARE BT3, now i'm starting to probe my network
and thank you too, to you pureh@te, i was beginning to give up on installing nessus when i saw your trick on how to download the fc5, i am installing the wrong package after all, that's why i cannot make it work
BTW, i'm using the new client ver. 3.2.0
Kudos to you all...
