Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Hello,
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z580, Which I would Love to get BT5R3 working completely on, but for the life of me, I can't figure out Which drivers I need. I downloaded the iWlwifi as well as the 80211 files from http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi
I have tried all afternoon to get these working, I would love a little help, or some step by step instructions on installing and updating the driver modules etc.
Thank You!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
You might want to download the firmware-iwlwifi ver 0.36
Please read here: (go to wheezy section), and read supported devices for 3.2 kernels and above. Your card supported...http://wiki.debian.org/iwlwifi
To download the 0.36 you links in the same page or download it here: http://mmc.geofisica.unam.mx/debian/...mware-nonfree/ ( with the name of ---> firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb)..
Luck.
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Thanks for the information, I will be working through this over the weekend. Question though, Backtrack is based on Ubuntu, is it an easy feet to install Debian drivers? Just a recompile? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I will be doing some research on this tonight. Also, would you know which drivers would work best for injection on the ALFA AWUS036NEH??
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Well, Ubuntu is based on debian. No problem at all..
Luck
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Ok, I followed the instructions in the link you posted;
Step One:
--> deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian squeeze main contrib non-free
this throws me an error of 'deb' unknown
Step Two:
--> aptitude update && aptitude install firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb wireless-tools
this throws me there the error that nothing is found at this location, so nothing will be downloaded and installed. I am assuming this is because of the first step no working??
And after the other steps are followed nothing. which would be expected.
I am guessing that the first step is trying to add another location from which to download the files?? so I am assuming that something is not correct in what I typed.
little help or explanation please.
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
OK,
made some progress, got the source location loaded, and have apt-get downloading the new drivers, but after they are downloaded, they error out on install.
The file that is downloaded is:
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ Wheezy/non-free firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb
which as far as I can tell is correct.
when it goes through the unpacking, is where the error start showing up, so I deleted and attempted to redownload a few times, but no success. I rebooted and tries again, but no success.
Here is the error:
dpkg-deb: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-100-5.ucode', which is also in package linux-firmware 0:2.0-bt7
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste likked by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
any ideas on the fix?? I'll keep working at it til I hear from you.
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
ok, well I got the driver to install, by using:
sudo dpkg -i --force-all firmware-iwlwifi_0.36_all.deb
which does install, and when I use:
iwconfig, I now get a wlan interface of wlan1:
wlan1 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
Mode: <anaged Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=0 dbm
Retry long limit: 7 RTS the: off Fragment the: off
Encryption key: off
Power Management: off
so some progress is being made, but I am unable to configure the interface.
Any help to get this up and running would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Well, need some assistance, kind of spinning my wheels. not sure where to go or what to do from here.
I installed my other drivers for my ALFA AWUS036NEH usb card, but have the same results, so i am guessing it is not the driver that is the entire problem, unless I made the same mistake on both.
So as of now, I have two wireless cards installed, and I can see their interfaces. I can tell them in the command-line to have a ESSID, which will show up in iwconfig/ifconfig, but still wont connect to either.
If I stop the DBus and start again, I stop getting the dbus error, but I have to do this whenever I reboot, which should be happening either. Is my install bad?? I am duel booting system with windows 7/ Backtrack 5r3 is this part of the issue??
Thanks for you help so far, Hope there is more... :8)
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
ok, well after messing with this all day, I have concluded that there are too many errors popping up, so I re-installed BT5R3 without dual booting, and everything is up and running within 5 minutes after the install. guess a crapping install can cause all sorts of issues. plus, I haven't had much luck with dual booting windows.
Thanks for your assistance.
Thanks!!
Re: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 (Need a little Help.. or a Lot)
Well, I have dual booting and it works fine..
But it's good you worked out your issue...
