X server broken after upgrade
I used the upgrade command instead of the dist-upgrade command by mistake.Duering the whole process i gave the application permission to overwrite over all of the previous configuration files. then when i try to login the login was different, never the less i managed to do a shell login. After i typed start x i was rewarded with a totally blank gray x server, and am unsure of how to fix this.
Additional Info:

We recommend that you download the latest version of Backtrack 5 R3 and also install your video drivers.

Re: X server broken after upgrade
I have the same problem, after upgrade (i also "allowed all" during the upgrade) after i was met with a login screen. No root username allowed, but i had no user name set up. Managed to get to cli window and create new user. but i'm rewarded with the same blank screen as described earlier in this thread.
I am a complete noob. running backtrack on a partition and the idea of re-installing gives me panic attacks! (upgraded from bt4 and nearly lost everything).
do i have an alternative to a full re-install? i do have BT5r3 on usb but cant figure out how this can help me. thanks, sorry to rant on!
