Recommended wireless usb adapters
Hello,
Can anyone recommend a usb wireless card for completing the wifu training course.
The wireless adapter Netgear WN111v2 USB I haven't been able to find, and on netgear's website they don't advertise that one anymore.
I could purchase another usb adapter but I am concerned that they might not support injection or monitor mode.
I will be running backtrack as a guest OS in virtualbox. The host being Fedora17.
I am only interested in the netgear as their usb's are very compact in size and easy to carry around, or another make that is of the same size.
Many thanks for any suggestions,

it is not netgear but the size is small too.
hope i help you

Alfa Network AWUS036H or AWUS036NH. The NH supports 802.11n, but some report it's slightly less stable. I got the AWUS036H through Rokland.com for under $30 USD with free shipping.
It has everything: rtl8187 chipset supported out-of-the-box on BT5, supports RFMON and injection, nice long USB cable, RP-SMA connector for external antenna, comes with a 5dBi antenna, and even comes with a mounting holster, suction cup and clip to stick it to a window or clip it to something.
Many forum members report it is the best chipset they've ever owned.
Re: Recommended wireless usb adapters
A lot of people have good experience with the Alfa network.
I still prefer the TP-Link or the netgear just based on being compact in size and easy to take with me anywhere.
IMHO, I think the Alfa are very suspicious looking with the antenna sticking up like that.

Hi
I bought last a TL-WN722N, it's a wireless usb adapter (Atheros-chipset) with a external antenna. Airodump-ng, Kismet, etc, works with this adapter.
Try to lookup the supported chipset in Fedora and in Backtrack. Is't for wlan hacking?

yes, and its not only for the size.
speed up to 150Mbps
4dBi detachable antenna
Quick Security Setup (QSS) Button (WPS Compatible) ... i suggest you do not use the qss buttom (reaver attack)
RP-SMA connector for external antenna
802.11 b/g/n
and i is cheaperthan alfa
i prefer atheros chipset
support backtrack 5 injection and almost all the attacksi i know

Interesting, I think you're right that they may look a bit suspicious. Worth considering!
Re: Recommended wireless usb adapters
I used Vmware Fusion and Backtrack5r2. My 19,5 Dbi antenna connected to this adapter, I couldn't believe when I started kismet after some time 1500 networks. Of course also a bleutooth connection with my gps receiver. I tried to import the data in a KML file for google maps. Put pitty enough the range of my wireless antenna overruled the range of my gps :). And secondly google maps with my bleutooth gps receiver connected the range is about 5 until 7 meters of the 'real' location. Bigger distance, bigger range.
Hamster is also fun tool to play with!

and the BEST PART OFF ALL the ALPHA's bake so easily, i burned 2 alpha's already >_> and with less then 10 working hours each
now im looking for something COMPLETELY different something that can take some strains and not burn off under an hour
Re: Recommended wireless usb adapters
I've been wanting to learn backtrack for 5 years now and I have finally started but after reading all these posts I'm wondering.
Would the TL-WN722N be better or the same exact as Alpha WUS036H?
The reason I ask is because the alpha is talked about a lot and in the chart it was mentioned as the best. So now I'm wondering. Because at the moment I would rather spend $10 rather than $30.
