Trying to install backtrack on acer aspire 5943g and when i startx the screen goes black and the caps key light flashes.
thats all it does on every install,
downloaded all the back tracks 32 bit and 64bit also tried kde version and gnome. but still not installing
had ubuntu on my other laptop but would like to see what BackTrack is like looks nice
just shame i cant use it.
any help would be great

sorry some more infomation. about the laptop I have installed ubuntu on this laptop and runs fine.
when i install BackTrack 5 32bit this will run as live cd but when i install and start x just get black screen.
tried to install r1 and r2 these dont give me live cd and just goes black screen.
on the 32 bit version before going to startx i have installed ati drivers. and changed grub settings.

I think you should have posted this in the beginners section...but I'll see if I can help. I assume you've checked the hardware compatibility list forums to see if others with a similar setup have posted there?
I'd install some virtualization software on your laptop, then see if you can install BT in a virtual machine.
Probably try an alternative command to startx. -> There a some more commands to start if i remember right... On KDM try "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start" maybe that works...
Otherwise change and try it with an other graphics....
