Cannot get ALFA AWUS036NHR to work in Backtrack R2. Problem!
First of all I'd like to say that I updated my machine %100.
Second, without installing anything, its recognized as an adapter, (but the chipset is unkown). When I try to connect to a wifi network in wikc network manager, it goes through this process.1
1) Scans for a network, successfully finds several ones.
2) Disconnecting all active connections
3) Putting interface down
4) putting interface up
5) NONE: Obtaining IP address (or it will say verifying password if I am connecting to a WPA2)
6) Cisco: Obtaining IP address
7) Error: Unable to obtain IP address.
Thats what happens when is start the machine. When I try to scan for networks again, it is unable to find any networks.
Only after I reboot my backtrack(in VMware) or disconnect/reconnect my adapter will it find networks again. I figured out after I press "Disconnet Active Connections" in wicd network manager will it turn of my adapter, then make it so that my adapter can't scan again...
I tried downloading the "Network manager" nm-applet thing. That didn't work either.
I tried following this TuT, but got two errors!
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad.php?t=45323
After I typed:
ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.39.4/Module.symvers /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.39.4/Module.symvers
I got an error
ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.39.4/Module.symvers': No such file or directory
After I typed "make" I got this error:
root@bt:/usr/src/compat-wireless-2011-10-06# make
make -C /lib/modules/3.2.6/build M=/usr/src/compat-wireless-2011-10-06 modules

Can Anyone help me? Thanks
Re: Cannot get ALFA AWUS036NHR to work in Backtrack R2. Problem!
I'm affraid your chipset (Do not see the brand, see the chipset) is not supportes as of today by aircrack-ng suite...Alfa brand does not means you will have it working "out of the box"..Need to see the chipset.. In Alfa, the rtl8187L indeed works "out of the box" for aircrack-ng suite...But yours is rtl8188RU...
Realtek, Atheros, Broadcom, etc, not all of them works with aircrack-ng suite, somo of them do not even work for linux, like in your case.
Please read here: http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?...st_card_to_buy
and here : http://www.alfa.com.tw/in/front/bin/...NHR&Category=0 (It clearly states the OS supported, and linux is not there) bisedes, if supported by linux, is not garantied to work with aircrack-suit....
Hope it helps...
Re: Cannot get ALFA AWUS036NHR to work in Backtrack R2. Problem!
Ok,thanks. Its weird because sometimes it conencts to the internet, and sometimes it doesn't... I wonder why?
It works for mon0, but not for wlan0 all of the time...
I looked on that link but i didn't see anything about an Alfa AWUS036NHR?
Re: Cannot get ALFA AWUS036NHR to work in Backtrack R2. Problem!
I have exactly the same problem..
first search is possible but mostly I can't connect to any of my routers..
after that I'm only able to find wireless connections when I unload and reload the rtl8192cu module or reboot BT
monitoring is working fine
Is there a solution yet?
Anything I tried didn't work..
When I use the AWUUS036NHR in windows there isn't a problem to connect and search for connections
When I tried to install the original realtek driver I get this error msg
Code:
WARNING: Symbol version dump /usr/src/linux-source-3.2.6/Module.symvers
is missing; modules will have no dependencies and modversions.
Re: Cannot get ALFA AWUS036NHR to work in Backtrack R2. Problem!
Don't feel frustrated! Our AWUS036NHR (RTL8188RU) works better, than AWUS036H (RTL8187L) in Windows! More powerful. 2000Mw > 1000Mw
