BackTrack 5 not detecting wifi from Alfa card when running in VirtualBox or LiveCD
First I tried running BackTrack 5 from VirtualBox on my Win7 machine. It could use the Ethernet fine, but I couldn't detect any Wifi. My network card is an Alfa USB network card (model: AWUS036H). I tried booting from a liveCD on another computer and the same issue is there; I can connect to Ethernet but not Wifi. When I type , I get
Code:
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter
, and I think that's my card, so it seems like my card is detected. However, when I plug my card into my Win7 machine, the green lights on the USB adapter turn on. This doesn't happen when I plug it in to the computer running BackTrack.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried:
What output do you get from that?

Lmao, the issue was that I was plugging it in to my USB 3.0 ports instead of the 2.0 ports... Thanks anyway.

Also worth keeping in mind for similar type of problem, checking the connected devices settings in the VM to be sure that the wireless card is not in fact connected to the host operating system i.e windows instead of the live cd.
