Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
Hello!
So I have no idea how many different times and different ways I have tried to download and install backtrack 5 R1 on my USB flash drive. When I go to boot from the USB HDD it always "sees" the USB flash drive but it has a boot error every time. I have done the gnome, iso, direct download every time and switched between 32-bit and 64-bit, neither of which worked. I have tried UNetBootin and linuxlive to install the iso to the USB, neither worked properly. I have no idea what else to try. My flash drive is 8GB. Should I just simply try using a bigger flash drive?? Or am I overlooking something?
any feedback would be most helpful!! & If I didn't include enough info let me know what more you need to know.
Thank you!

Please define "boot error" we can't help you if you do not provide us the required details.
Re: Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
all it says it boot error =( when i choose to boot from the USB HDD it tries to, sees the USB drive, then says boot error at the bottom of the screen. I will try again and see if I can find a better error message somewhere on the screen but all I could see previously was just boot error... =(
Re: Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
Likewise.
Following the installation guide on the wiki and rebooting i have:
GRUB Loading stage1.5
GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 15
I ended up using UNetBootin to install it after partitioning with fdisk. Then rejoined the wiki instructions at the command "cp -r isolinux syslinux"
So finally: It takes ages to load and hangs after 'poweroff' or ' reboot' but considering the time i've wasted today i'm satisfied.
Re: Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
So when I tried it again & got the error, again, and I tried to find a more detailed error, and didn't, but the boot error orrcurs when it is Verifying DMI Pool Data. Is that any more helpful?? I can't find a more detailed error, all it says is Boot Error...which is very frustrating that it doesn't tell me what is wrong...

Re: Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
you are either using a defective usb drive, not wiping the usb drive properly, or the iso file you are using unetbootin to deliver the iso and making it bootable has a invalid checksum and you have not compared them.
:(

Re: Bootable USB for Backtrack 5 R1 has boot error
Ok so I have FINALLY figured it out. I wasn't allowing enough room for the persistence mode... I knew it would be something stupid like that. Thanks for trying to help!!
