BT 5 GNOME 64 bit issue with ettercap NG-0.7.3 (DNS SPOOFING)

Hi,

I would like to point out an issue I faced when trying to dns spoof with ettercap (NG-0.7.3) on Backtrack 5 GNOME 64 bit.

the error message I get on ettercap when spoofing dns is
"Dissector "dns" not supported (etter.conf line 70)"

after spending almost the whole day googling and trying figure out why Im get this error I lucky found a post where someone mentioned ettercap dns spoofing is not compatible with 64 bit operating systems.

So i downloaded BT 5 32 bit GNOME and i managed to DNS spoof without getting that error message.

Did the same thing. It sucked. Literally spent like 8 hours changing settings over and over again. Let it also be known that I was using KDE. So apparently neither 64bit versions of the OS work with ettercap in that respect. Really hope this helps someone avoid the endless googling I did. My advice to those trying to "work around" this limitation: give up. delete the vm or format the hdd. download the 32 bit version. get on with your pre-pentesting.

for reasons our of my control (given an error that i do not have permission to access that page when i try to reply) i cannot respond in the thread. if you do that install (64bit kde in VirtualBox) and get the error from ettercap: Dissector "dns" not supported (etter.conf line 70). You cannot do ARP spoofing or anything of that sort. The only resolution to the problem I have found is removing the 64bit version and trading to a 32 bit version... hopefully this little message will show up if someone searches the forum

Tried on archlinux 64 bit and now dns spoofing seems to work..

hi, i tried this:
patch -u ettercap ettercap-0.7.3-x86_64-dns.patch

patch: **** Can't open patch file ettercap-0.7.3-x86_64-dns.patch : No such file or directory

but it not works...

Hi i am trying to resolve the problem of the dns problem but i cant figure how i have to patch ettercap. I have downloaded the patch and typed patch -u ettercap*****.patch and it seems that is patching but it is not making anything. Can someone help me please my email is Mod Edit: no email address needed.
