Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
I think this problem is more ettercap related than BT because the same thing happened to me when I tried to install ettercap on Debian Squeeze 64bit. It doesn't work on BT5 GNOME 64 bit either. I believe that `ettercap -g` is not really supported by GNOM 64 bit envs.
Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
I first installed Ettercap in to my linux mint debian 64 Partition with gnome. Using ettercap -G, It would shut down after scanning for hosts 8 out of every 10 times i tried, After installing Backtrack 5 64 gnome, I still have the same issue. For me it seems there is an issue with Ettercap and 64 bit architecture or ettercap and gnome.
I will learn to use terminal instead, The GUI seemed like a nice bonus though
Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
Hi r083rt,
I've followed your guide, but i still won't get anything inside ettercap.
I can see all the logins and password in the log of sslstrip...
I've read around teh web, that it could be a problem of the http dissector:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1555044
any idea on how to fix this?
Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
hi michelinok!
i've delete ettercap-gtk and ettercap-common .i'm install this for my version 32bit this package:
https://launchpad.net/~timothy-redae...izzt1_i386.deb
https://launchpad.net/~timothy-redae...izzt1_i386.deb
work fine and NOT CRASH !!!
the sniffing password work beautiful!!BUT remains only the issue of certificates for the "victim"
non sò se è la via giusta ma ha me ha funzionato!ho letto molto in rete:
see you!!!:))

Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
Hello michelinok,
in my pc it works! I find in ETTERCAP username and password after sniffing.repeat remains only the problem that "non-secure web page" for my "victimxp"but if the victim accept non secure web-page the passwords come-in .i'm tested gmail,hotmail,paypal,alice...!i'm event don't change ec_uid & ec_gid(etter.conf value default!)I do not know what to say!:))thanks and see you!:)

1) glad to hear that it works for you...but doesn't work for me..maybe i've a too much secure system? (not arp-poisoning victims?)
2) to solve the problem about the certificate, just use sslstrip,it's very simple!
Re: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
Hello michelinok,
thanks for the answer! sslstrip I did not solve the problem! I've done a thousand tests!bye:p
Riferimento: Ettercap-gtk crashes while scanning for hosts
sslstrip works ok for me (the cert is bypassed), the strange thing is that ettercap won't parse http/https packets

Unfortunately. Ettercap-gtk still doesn't work (on my Satellite P305-S8823). I tried booting off the DVD to verify it wasn't some mistake I made. Still no joy. I tried running the same disc on another laptop (Satellite L645): Ettercap-gtk works great! Conclusion I have a hardware configuration problem. Probably need to tryout different drivers.
Thanks again,

I did what Ro83rt said above. Then opened ettercap-gtk. Selected Options and set the netmask. then unified sniff. Opened the host list, scanned for host. Closed and reopened the host list and my hosts appeared. Not sure if it will work for you but now I am not locking up when scanning for hosts.
