Alfa AWUS051NH, works, injection works
thank you!
I think the 2000mW refers to the wireless strength
The 2000mw adapter is the AWUS036NH. It only operates in 2.4GHz. The 51NH operates in both 2.4 and 5GHz.
As for power requirements. I have heard but not verified that the 2000mw is somewhat misleading in that Alfa includes the dBi of the antenna in its advertised rating. So the number they quote would actually be an EIRP number. The 51NH I have came with both a 5dBi and a 9dBi antenna. So all that "extra" power is due to the antenna and not the actual device itself. So, assuming that a 9dBi antenna is used for the 2W output of the 36NH device, the output at the device would have to be around 250mw. Not sure what the max for USB is.
Recognize that I am no expert at calculating dB. What I do know is that every 3dB up or down is twice or half power respectivly.
Woo, thank god. Because I just ordered "Alfa AWUS051NH 500mW High Gain 802.11a/b/g/n high power Wireless USB A / B / G / N Wireless WiFi Network adapter With a 5dBi and 9dBi magnetic base Rubber Antenna, Mini bendable Flex cable and Suction cup / Clip Window Mount - High speed Up to 300 Mbps - With Hot Swap Support". Is this the one you said works right?
Hello !
I just read this thread and the out-of-the-box one and want to order ausb dongle. Being quite new, I didn't get everything so maybe can you advice me which one to choose between the awus036nh and the awus051nh.
I was about to order the awus036nh but noticed that the chipset listed on alfa's website is rt3070 where the chipset listed here for this card is rt2870, so will it still work ?
Then asus051nh is listed with two different chipset, rt2770 and rt2750 on alfa's website. Is one better than the other ?
Last question, what do you guys think about the alfa awuso36neh ?
Thanks !
hello i have been trying to get this to work for about two weeks now

"root@bt:~# airmon-ng start wlan0
Found 2 processes that could cause trouble.
If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after
a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them!
PID Name
1213 dhclient3
1669 dhclient3
Process with PID 1669 (dhclient3) is running on interface wlan0
Interface Chipset Driver
Wlan0 Ralink RT2870/3070 rt2800usb - [phy0]
(monitor mode enabled on mon0)
How do i fix this?? i am a n00b ish
Not sure what your trying to fix.
Mon0 is created in monitor mode and this is the interface you use so when you use say airodump-ng the syntax would be
airodump-ng mon0
or
airodump-ng -c 6 mon0 etc.
iwconfig will confirm you have a wireless interface in monitor mode on mon0
if you want to destroy mon0 use airmon-ng stop mon0 to get rid of it.
I have had many problems with alfa cards in VM images when they work out of the box in permanent installs like persistant usb. Worth a try if you are using these cards from an iso loaded or VM image and having problems.
Sorry for the late reply. Yes. I have two and they rock.
