Thanks it worked like charm!!!
I agree with rotxx. I know BT comes with you logged in as root by default, but I don't know why everyone insists on keeping it that way. Especially when people are obviously trying to use it as their Daily Driver OS(VLC, OpenOffice, Wine, etc.) I mean the default password is toor, do you leave that as is as well?
Unless there is a specific technical reason to not do so(massive breakage etc.) why not do the following.
Then once this is setup use the box as the user you created for most things, then either sudo or su when you need to do tasks that require root.Code:useradd -m username
passwd username
visudo
Add your username below the line that reads
root ALL=(ALL) ALL
so that it looks like this
root ALL=(ALL) ALL
username ALL=(ALL) ALL
Profit?
Disclaimer: I'm not intimately familiar with the structure of BT5 yet so if someone out there knows a reason to NOT do this please correct me so people don't have breakage related to this.
Totally agree when it comes to OpenOffice/LibreOffice and routine use apps but VLC comes in handy when doing forensic analysis of files. VLC is just a really nice media player for reconstructed video streams (products of Xplico, Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.). Are there other apps to do this with BT5? Probably but VLC gets it done right. Just my two cents....
Have an OUTSTANDING day!
Worked for BT5 64bit Gnome! Thanks for that, I was annoyed I may have to lose out on vlc!
thnx, it's work for me.
i'm using BT5 KDE 32.
still need help with this issue, have tried countless times to no avail. I have removed/purged vlc, installed from repos, used ghex and hexedit, and still nothing. Anymore tips about vlc?
Sorry I don't know anything else. Just make sure you follow the steps correctly.
When you open vlc from command line, what happens ?
