white screen of death (ati cards)
If you go to boot from cd or hard disk and get the white monitor AND you have an ati card, like a newer radeon or radeon hd....this is what you need to do:
!) boot to grub menu
2) scroll to the entry you want to boot....
3) you will either need to press tab to enter edit mode or press the e key, depending on which version of framebuffer you are using.
4) once you are in edit mode, find the line that has the kernel config parameters, it usually has "text splash" on it. Once you locate that line, scroll to the end and add this text:
radeon.modeset=0
5) now depending on which framebuffer you are using, you can press enter to boot or ctrl+x
6) enjoy

heya firstly thanks for the info. i tired doing what you said i hit enter, it starts loading up, Then comes along ubuntu 10.04 splash screen? i hit the any key to see what going on in the background... The process stalls at
"(Initramfs ) unable to find a medium containing a live files system"
anyhelp?
i am using a macbook pro.
