would do the same thing and cause pulseaudio to start automatically but I have not tried this so no guarantees.Code:
update-rc.d pulseaudio defaults

did not work, followed the instructions to the T but still no sound... the audio settings are unlocked now... but no sound.... not from the built in speakers or the audio out port. i have an asus g51vx and im runing bt5 gnome 64bit, dual boot with vista and sound works fine with the windows OS partition....... any ideas?
I know you are all super l33t hackers and such. Lord knows this f0rum is floating with em these days. But uh...Did you ever think perhaps there is a reason for NOT having pulse run in r00t by default??
pulseaudio exploit - Google Search
Just my two cents....
Thus their have been alot of updates to the kernel and to the framework since then - this vuln applied to the old TAP drivers if im not mistaken
A similar google search before posting would revile that this was patched for Ubuntu back in 2008 PulseAudio set*id(). CVE-2008-0008 bug#185534
