missing operating system! can't go back to windows 7!
hello everyone,
I cannot access my windows 7 anymore, I was trying to make a bootable USB drive, i uploaded BT4 to the usb, and followed the directions on offensive security, (http://www.offensive-security.com/vi...b-install.html) I got up to installing GRUB, but never completed it, i think i made an error somewhere Im not sure.
i might have partitioned it incorrectly? did i accidently format my w7?
here is my sudo fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
240 heads, 63 sectors/track, 15505 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 15120 * 512 = 7741440 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xb2c45f44
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 272 2056288+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda2 273 15505 115161480 83 Linux
Disk /dev/sdb: 4110 MB, 4110417920 bytes
127 heads, 62 sectors/track, 1019 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 7874 * 512 = 4031488 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0009e87d
This doesn't look like a partition table
Probably you selected the wrong device.
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 ? 409369 440697 123339962 f4 SpeedStor
Partition 1 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?):
phys=(793, 22, 13) logical=(409368, 50, 21)
Partition 1 has different physical/logical endings:
phys=(870, 235, 61) logical=(440696, 102, 48)
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sdb2 ? 48031 90225 166116794 10 OPUS
Partition 2 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?):
phys=(205, 7, 0) logical=(48030, 72, 54)
Partition 2 has different physical/logical endings:
phys=(870, 235, 50) logical=(90224, 41, 7)
Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sdb3 ? 28652 28652 5 74 Unknown
Partition 3 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?):
phys=(367, 66, 47) logical=(28651, 88, 13)
Partition 3 has different physical/logical endings:
phys=(370, 32, 37) logical=(28651, 88, 22)
Partition 3 does not end on cylinder boundary.
Partition table entries are not in disk order
I'm not too sure as to what i did wrong, anyone have any pointers? Thanks.
I've also tried the windows 7 recovery disc, but it doesnt display the OS.
did i FUBAR?
Re: missing operating system! can't go back to windows 7!
Well I think you should have first checked what device is your usb drive, from what I see is that you accidentally formatted you HDD. Good luck in recovering your data!
Re: missing operating system! can't go back to windows 7!
Try to restore MBR with w7 recovery disk

Blue is that goofy 100Mb partition win7 makes.
Red was where windows7 used to be.
sdb is your 4Gb usb drive.
The grub install is the last step when installing linux, so it looks like you overwrote at least part of your windows drive. You can try using a data recovery boot disk, but I wouldn't hold you breath on getting much back.
